Johnson & Allen Products
JAYMI
The JAYMI is the next generation of yoke from Johnson & Allen – Developed to be light weight but powerful, efficient and robust. Previously customers have had to compromise on either weight, durability or power when choosing a yoke. Overcoming these limitations was the design philosophy behind the JAYMI.
The core is housed within an ergonomic injection moulded shell made from an abrasion and chemical resistant plastic and the yoke incorporates a number of rubber gaskets to retard fluid ingress. The energising micro switch is trigger mounted with a rubber membrane making it easy to press and giving a user friendly action to it.
JAY
The JAY can be supplied fitted with a Permanently Attached Light (PAL) pod. This rugged inspection light is contained in a purpose cast and resin filled pod and is operated using a switch independent of the energising function. Using an ultra-bright white LED cluster the PAL illuminates the area between the poles to in excess of 500 Lux – The minimum required by many MPI standards. The lead can also be upgraded to an armoured cable for increased robustness.
The JAY ‘PAL’ is ideal for night shift work where light is limited, on-site work where use of other light sources may be impractical and enclosed or difficult inspections that require freer hands to perform efficiently.
JAYSON
Manufactured in-house the JAYSON has a proven track record for usability, durability and reliability. The core is encapsulated in a hardwearing, impact and abrasion resistant polymer which makes the JAYSON hard wearing and the switch is positioned on the spine of the yoke to minimise the profile of the yoke. Like other Johnson & Allen yokes the JAYSON is fitted with a self-resetting thermal cut-out to prevent burnouts from misuse.
The JAYSON is supplied lift tested with certificate of conformity and in a heavy duty canvas bag as standard.
JAY BI-VOLT
The JAY Bi-Volt is similar to our single Voltage JAY but gives the operator the choice of using either 230V or 110V mains supplies. Operators simply connect one of the two leads supplied and inspect as they would normally. The JAY Bi-Volt produces identical magnetic fields when supplied with the same voltage as the standard JAY.
The JAY Bi-Volt is ideal for operators who do contract work who cannot rely on a single type of mains supply being available in every premise they visit.
MPI YOKE KIT
Johnson & Allen’s MPI kit contains everything needed for efficient on-site MPI. The MPI kit is ideal for contract work – Just prepare, inspect, clean and then put away again.
Available with or without a yoke included for customers with existing yokes – Both 230V and 110V yokes available.
AC TO DC CONVERTER – J-CON YOKE CONVERTER
The J-Con AC to DC Converter turns either a 230V or 110V mains supply (depending on model) into a DC supply of the same Voltage, allowing AC yokes to operate as DC ones. This means operators can look for and find deeper, sub-surface defects than would be possible using just AC waveforms.
Both the 230V and 110V variant feature dual sockets so two yokes can be operated from the same converter.
The J-Con AC to DC Converter will work with all Johnson & Allen yokes and other brands of yokes with similar current requirements.
STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER
The Johnson & Allen yoke step down transformer is a simple way of stepping down a 230V supply to a 110V supply for electromagnetic yokes – Lower voltages means increased safety.
FLEXI-MAG – FULLY ADJUSTABLE MPI PERMANENT MAGNET
Designed with Magnetic Particle Inspection in mind, the Flexi-Mag is comprised of two separate magnets connected via a heavy duty chain and sheathed by a protective covering. This design offers unparalleled adjustability in the plane of the magnet making even the hardest inspection areas easy for the operator.
JAM – ADJUSTABLE MPI PERMANENT MAGNET
Designed with Magnetic Particle Inspection in mind, the JAM is a lightweight and highly adjustable permanent magnet with four points of articulation; Two lateral and two rotational. This in combination with an angled feet design mean that the JAM can be manipulated into almost any position required by an operator for efficient inspection.
POLY-MAG – LARGE MPI HORSESHOE MAGNET
Permanent magnets by their nature are inherently brittle and susceptible to impact damage. The Poly-Mag is a large horseshoe type permanent magnet completely encapsulated in a polymer coating to significantly reduce the risk of breakages, abrasion damage and corrosion. This makes the Poly-Mag robust and long lasting.
RPNS – MPI HORSESHOE MAGNETS
The RPNS range is ideal for small inspection areas or when inspecting parts with limited working room.
DMC70 – 70MM SMALL APERTURE DEMAGNETIZER
The DMC70 is compact and powerful and can be used as both a magnetizing and demagnetizing coil. Encapsulated in a hard wearing polymer the DMC70 is resistant to impact, abrasion and corrosion damage. This unit is ideal for small tools and low volume demagnetization in almost any engineering environment.
The DMC70 is fitted with a self-resetting thermal cut-out to prevent burnouts from misuse as standard.
MC260 AC/DC – 260MM APERTURE AC/DC MAGNETIZER
The MC260 can be used as both a magnetising (AC and DC) and demagnetising coil (AC) and is capable of finding transverse orientated defects. Encapsulated in a hard wearing polymer the MC260 is resistant to impact, abrasion and corrosion damage. This unit is suitable for use in even the harshest engineering environments.
STANDARD TEST PIECES
Johnson & Allen supply a range of test pieces for validation of MPI systems.
REFERENCE BLOCK TYPE 1
MPI Reference Block 1 is made by quenching a steel block coated with a Chrome surface – The hard Chrome surface cracks when rapidly cooled forming a test pieces covered in natural discontinuities on both sides.
Reference Block 1 has a variety of indications ranging from small to large.
Can be supplied with a photo showing indications for a small additional cost.
REFERENCE BLOCK TYPE 2
Reference Block Type 2 consists of steel bar with a scale machined into its face with 2 permanent magnets on either end. The scale is calibrated such that the +4 mark represents a magnetic field with a strength of +100 A/m and the -4 mark represents -100 A/m.
AS 5282 TEST RING
The AS 5282 Test Ring (formerly known as the Ketos Test Ring) is a quick test method for ensuring an MPI process is suitable for detecting a type of defect.
The AS 5282 Ring consists of a ring with a series of drilled holes in different positions. The holes closest to the outer circumference simulate shallow defects while the holes closest to the centre of the ring simulate deep sub-surface discontinuities which would typically only be found using a DC current.
MPI TEST BAR
The MPI Test Bar is used as a test piece with artificial flaws to establish field direction and determine adequate current levels using AC or DC current in wet horizontal magnetic particle bench units.
The bar contains both fine and coarse defects, surface and subsurface defects and longitudinal and transverse indications. As required in some specs, this bar may be used to determine that the MPI procedure has the ability to detect a 1/16 inch long by .006 inch wide by .01 inch deep notch (maximum dimension) oriented 90 degrees to the magnetic flux.
It is made of low alloy steel and is filled flush with a non-conducting material to prevent mechanical holding of the magnetic particles.
PEAR SHAPED FLASKS
Centrifuge flasks for accurately measuring the concentration of magnetic particles (solid content) present in magnetic inks.
To be used as part of a MPI system’s regular performance check – Necessitated by many common MPI standards
TEST TUBE FLASKS
Centrifuge flasks for accurately measuring the concentration of magnetic particles (solid content) present in magnetic inks.
To be used as part of a MPI system’s regular performance check – Necessitated by many common MPI standards.
FLUX INDICATOR STRIPS
Used for MPI assessment and validation. Johnson & Allen supply flux indicator strips in a PVC wallet containing 5 laminated Mu-Metal strips with precision made defects in. These strips can indicated both the presence and direction of magnetic fields particularly when using current flow and coil techniques. Flux indicator strips are also a fantastic teaching aid when explaining the MPI method. Suitable for type I and type II applications with RPS 700 conformity.
BERTHOLD PENETRAMETER
The Berthold Penetrameter is designed to measure magnetisation strength, field direction, penetration depth and the quality of the fluorescent magnetic particles suspended in consumable products during magnetic particle testing.
The Penetrameter consists of a remanence-free shielding ring surrounding an iron cylinder covered by a thin brass plate. The cylinder is divided into four quarters by cuts which simulate artificial flaws in the form of a cross.
Supplied with a certificate of manufacture.
ASME PIE GAUGE
The Magnetic Particle Pie Gauge is used as an aid in determining the direction of magnetic fields for detection of discontinuities in ferrous metals.
Supplied with a certificate of manufacture.
